A scored assessment against the King Code principles, the Companies Act and POPIA, with a gap register prioritised by exposure rather than by ease, and a board pack presenting the findings in the form a board can act on.
NPOs, councils, SMEs and funded companies — usually before a board review, a funder’s due diligence or a first audit.
King is applied on an apply-and-explain basis, which is widely treated as optional. It is not: for listed entities and most public entities application is mandated elsewhere, and for everyone else the explanation is the disclosure — an entity that neither applies nor explains has failed the Code on its own terms.

The framework this work answers to.
The assessment is run against the standards that will actually be applied to the organisation: King V for governance outcomes and disclosure, the Companies Act 71 of 2008 for the board’s constitution and duties, POPIA for information, and the PFMA or MFMA where the organisation is a public entity or a municipality. King V applies to financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2026 on an apply-and-explain basis, so for most boards the current year is the first one measured against it.

A scored assessment across the governance instruments, the board’s own processes and the evidence trail, producing a gap register prioritised by exposure rather than by ease of fixing. Each gap carries the standard it fails, the fix, a suggested owner and an indicative effort. The deliverable is a board pack in the form a board can resolve on, plus a one-page summary for the audit and risk committee.
A health check that returns forty findings is useless to a board that can act on four. The register is ranked so that the first four are the ones that would actually be raised against the organisation.
